Economisers

Economiser

The hot gases from the boilers passed through the economisers where heat was extracted to raise the temperature of the boiler feed water.
The two Green's economisers were installed in 1936. The tubes which the water passes through have scrapers on the outside to remove any soot deposits.
The scrapers are raised and lowered by the economiser engine (top left).
