The overhead crane travels on rails at each side of the building.

The crane is entirely operated using manual crank handles.
Note that the safe working load for the crane depends on whether chain or wire rope is being used.

The beams are made from wrought iron plates riveted together and weigh 13 tons.
The beams are carried on 12" diameter plain bearings.
